Omaha Estate Planning Counsel
Michael L. Rickert focuses his practice on estate planning, business succession planning, and wealth transfer planning, serving business owners, farm and ranch operators, and high-net-worth individuals and families throughout the Midwest. With significant experience in these complex and often deeply personal areas, Michael takes pride in crafting practical, forward-thinking strategies tailored to each client’s goals.
Michael advises clients on the full spectrum of estate planning, probate, and trust administration matters. His work ranges from basic estate plans—including wills, revocable trusts, and powers of attorney—to sophisticated planning involving charitable giving, federal gift and estate tax mitigation, and multi-generational wealth transfer. As part of his wealth transfer and business succession planning practice, Michael regularly implements intentionally defective grantor trusts, irrevocable life insurance trusts, premarital agreements, FLP/FLLCs, charitable remainder trusts, buy-sell agreements, and other strategies. He also regularly counsels clients through post-death estate and trust administrations, including complex, multimillion dollar estates. To complement his planning-related practice, Michael also possesses comprehensive experience with general corporate and real estate law.
Raised on a family farm, Michael brings a unique perspective to his work with agricultural clients. His background helps him understand the challenges faced by farmers and ranchers, allowing him to provide planning strategies that preserve legacies and promote smooth transitions between generations. His deep understanding of federal gift and estate tax laws further enhances his ability to serve clients with complex planning needs.
Michael is a member of the Nebraska Bar Association, Omaha Bar Association, and Omaha Estate Planning Council. He is also currently obtaining his designation as a Charted Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP). He earned his juris doctor, with distinction, from the University of Nebraska College of Law, where he graduated with a concentration in business transactions and served on the Nebraska Law Review. He earned his undergraduate degree in business administration, with high distinction, from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln.
Outside of his legal practice, Michael enjoys bicycling, golfing, traveling, cheering on Husker football, and spending time with his wife, their dog, and two cats.
